Tidal Spiral — Coiled Natural-Fiber Bread Basket

A lively spiral of honey, cream and deep brown gives this hand-coiled basket wonderful movement and character. Bundled natural fibers are bound with pale stitching and punctuated by small knotted details, creating a rhythmic pattern that radiates outward from the center.

Acquired in South Carolina, its generous bowl shape is perfectly suited to dinner rolls, biscuits, crackers or cocktail napkins. Between gatherings, fill it with fruit, use it as a handsome tabletop catchall or hang it on the wall as a graphic piece of fiber art.

The basket is unmarked, and its maker and place of manufacture are unknown. Its materials appear to be pine needles and raffia. Subtle variations are part of its handmade character.
